Troubleshooting Biometric Login
Biometric Not Working
Face ID/Face Unlock issues:
"Face Not Recognized":
- Ensure good lighting
- Hold phone 10-20 inches away
- Face camera directly
- Remove sunglasses
- Remove face coverings (if safe)
- Clean front camera lens
Repeated failures:
- Check Face ID enabled in device settings
- Re-register face in device settings
- Restart device
- Update to latest iOS/Android
Touch ID/Fingerprint issues:
"Fingerprint Not Recognized":
- Clean home button/sensor
- Dry fingers thoroughly
- Try different registered finger
- Ensure finger fully covers sensor
- Press firmly but naturally
Repeated failures:
- Check Touch ID/Fingerprint enabled in device
- Re-register fingerprint in device settings
- Try registering additional fingers
- Restart device
Biometric Option Not Available
"Biometric login not available on this device"
Reasons:
- Device doesn't have biometric hardware
- Biometric not set up in device settings
- Device security settings disabled it
- Software too old
Solutions:
- Check device settings:
- iPhone: Settings → Face ID & Passcode / Touch ID & Passcode
- Android: Settings → Security → Biometric unlock
- Enroll biometric if not set up
- Update device to latest OS
- Enable device security (passcode/PIN required)
"Biometric Changed" Warning
If you see this message:
- Device detected biometric re-enrollment
- Security feature
- Prevents unauthorized access
What to do:
- Confirm it was you who changed biometric
- Re-authenticate with password
- Re-enable biometric in RoadL
- New biometric now works
If you didn't change:
- Change your RoadL password immediately
- Contact support: (833) 762-3555
- Review account security
- Check for unauthorized access
Fallback to Password
Using password when biometric fails:
- Tap "Use Password" on login screen
- Enter email and password
- Tap Log In
- Biometric remains enabled for next time
When fallback needed:
- Biometric temporarily not working
- Too many failed attempts
- Poor lighting (Face ID)
- Wet fingers (Touch ID)
- Device restrictions
- You prefer password at that moment
Security and Privacy
How Biometric Data is Protected
Your biometric information:
- ❌ Never stored on RoadL servers
- ❌ Never transmitted over internet
- ❌ Never shared with anyone
- ✅ Stored only on your device
- ✅ In secure enclave/trusted execution environment
- ✅ Encrypted with device-specific key
RoadL only knows:
- Biometric enabled: Yes/No
- Biometric type: Face/Fingerprint
- Device capability
- Authentication success/failure
RoadL never sees:
- Your actual biometric data
- Biometric templates
- Facial features
- Fingerprint patterns
Multi-Factor Authentication
Biometric as second factor:
- Password = what you know
- Biometric = who you are
- Both = stronger security
For sensitive actions:
- Some actions require password even with biometric enabled
- Extra security for critical changes
- Changing password
- Deleting account
- Updating payment methods
Lost or Stolen Device
If device is lost:
Your RoadL account protected:
- Device passcode protects biometric
- Biometric is device-specific
- Thief can't use biometric (isn't you)
- Multiple failed attempts lock device
What to do:
- Use "Find My iPhone/Device" to lock remotely
- Change RoadL password from another device
- Contact support to secure account: (833) 762-3555
- Biometric won't work on lost device after lock
Biometric Limitations
Biometric cannot:
- ❌ Be reset if compromised (unlike password)
- ❌ Be changed easily
- ❌ Work for account recovery
- ❌ Replace all passwords
Biometric is:
- ✅ Convenience + security
- ✅ Primary authentication method
- ✅ Combined with password requirement
- ✅ One factor of multiple
Best Practices
Do's
✅ DO:
- Enable biometric for faster, secure access
- Keep device passcode strong
- Update device OS regularly
- Use biometric with password combination
- Re-enable after device setup
- Register backup fingers (Touch ID)
Don'ts
❌ DON'T:
- Share device with unauthorized people
- Disable device passcode
- Skip biometric during onboarding
- Ignore "biometric changed" warnings
- Use biometric only without password
Recommendations
For best security:
- Enable biometric authentication
- Use strong password backup
- Enable two-factor authentication (when available)
- Keep device OS updated
- Use device passcode/PIN
- Don't jailbreak/root device
