Track Your Provider in Real-Time
One of RoadL's most popular features is real-time provider tracking. Know exactly when your healthcare provider will arrive - just like tracking a rideshare!
When Can I Track My Provider?
Provider tracking becomes available when:
- ✅ Your appointment is scheduled with a confirmed time
- ✅ A provider is assigned to your visit
- ✅ The provider indicates they're "on the way" to your location
How to Access Provider Tracking
- Open the RoadL Patient App
- Navigate to My Appointments
- Tap on your upcoming appointment
- When the provider is en route, you'll see:
- "Locate Provider" button becomes active
- Notification: "Your provider is on the way!"
Real-Time Tracking Features
Live Map View
When you tap Locate Provider:
- See your provider's live location on an interactive map
- View your home location marked clearly
- Watch the route update in real-time
ETA & Distance
Get accurate arrival information:
- Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) - Updated continuously
- Distance - Current distance from your location
- Route visualization - See the path they're taking
Provider Information
Verify who's coming:
- Provider's name
- Professional photo
- Credentials (NPI number, specialty)
- Ratings (if available)
Understanding Provider Status
Your appointment will show different statuses:
Before Tracking is Available
- Request Raised - Waiting for provider assignment
- Provider Assigned - Provider confirmed, preparing for visit
- Scheduled - Appointment confirmed, but provider not yet en route
When Tracking is Active
- On the Way - Provider traveling to your location
- This is when live tracking activates
- You'll receive a push notification
- Map shows real-time location
During the Visit
- In Progress - Provider has arrived and is with you
- Completing Visit - Provider is finishing documentation
Notifications
You'll receive automatic updates:
- 📱 Provider Assigned - "Jane Smith, NP has been assigned to your visit"
- 📱 On the Way - "Your provider is on the way! Tap to track"
- 📱 Arriving Soon - "Your provider will arrive in approximately 5 minutes"
- 📱 Provider Arrived - "Your provider has arrived"
Sharing Your Provider's Location
Need to share the tracking link with family?
- Tap Share while viewing the tracking map
- Choose how to share:
- Text message
- Email
- Copy link to clipboard
- Recipients can view the live map without logging in
Note: Shared links are encrypted and expire after the visit is completed.
What If Tracking Isn't Working?
Troubleshooting Steps
If you don't see the "Locate Provider" button:
- Check that your appointment status is "Scheduled" or "On the Way"
- Refresh the appointment details by pulling down
- Make sure you have an active internet connection
If the map isn't loading:
- Check your internet connection (WiFi or cellular data)
- Enable location services for the RoadL app
- Try closing and reopening the app
If the location seems incorrect:
- This is rare - our tracking uses real-time GPS
- The provider may be making a brief stop

Privacy & Location Services
For Patients:
- You don't need to share your location for tracking to work
- Your address is already confirmed from your profile
- Tracking only shows the provider's location coming to you
For Providers:
- Providers consent to location sharing when accepting visits
- Location is only shared during the "on the way" period
- Tracking stops when the visit is completed

Our tracking system uses:
- WebSockets technology for real-time updates
- Secure encrypted connections for privacy
- GPS data from the provider's mobile device
- Azure Maps for accurate routing and ETAs

How accurate is the ETA?
- Very accurate! Updates every few seconds based on actual traffic
- May vary by 2-5 minutes depending on traffic conditions
Can I contact my provider while they're en route?
- Use the in-app chat for non-urgent messages
- For urgent matters, call RoadL Operations: (833) 762-3555
- They can relay messages to your provider
What if my provider is running late?
- You'll see updated ETA in real-time
- You'll receive a notification if delays are significant
- Our operations team may contact you proactively
Does this work for telehealth visits?
- No, provider tracking is only for in-home visits
- Telehealth visits connect directly at the scheduled time
Is my provider's location always tracked?
- No - only when they indicate "on the way" for your specific visit
- Tracking automatically stops after the visit is complete
- Privacy is a top priority for both patients and providers
