Setting Provider Preferences for Family Members
Set provider preferences for family members you manage in your RoadL account. Help ensure family members receive care that's comfortable and personalized to their needs.
What Are Family Member Preferences?
When scheduling care for family members, you can set:
- Gender preference - Preferred provider gender for the family member
- Language preference - Preferred communication language
- Favorite providers - Providers the family member has seen before
These preferences help RoadL match family members with providers who best meet their individual needs.
Who Can Set Family Preferences?
Account holders can:
- Set preferences when scheduling for family members
- Manage preferences in family member profiles
- Update preferences anytime
- Set different preferences for each family member
Family members:
- Each person can have unique preferences
- Preferences stored separately per person
- Don't affect your own preferences
Setting Preferences During Scheduling
When Scheduling for Family
Step-by-step:
- Tap Schedule a Visit
- Select "For Family Member" in Step 1
- Choose the family member who needs care
- Complete service selection in Step 2
- In Step 3, find Provider Preferences section
- Set preferences for this family member:
- Gender preference
- Language preference
- Favorite provider (if applicable)
- Continue with scheduling
What You'll See
Provider Preferences section shows:
- Preferences specific to selected family member
- Gender preference dropdown
- Language preference dropdown
- Favorite providers list (from family member's previous visits)
- Option to skip preferences (optional)
Important: Preferences set here apply only to this family member and this visit.
Managing Preferences in Family Member Profile
Accessing Family Member Preferences
- Open RoadL Patient App
- Go to My Family
- Tap on the family member
- Tap Preferences or Provider Preferences
- View and edit preferences
Editing Family Member Preferences
- Select the family member from My Family
- Tap Preferences
- Tap the preference to change
- Select new option
- Tap Save
Changes apply to:
- Future visits for this family member
- Default preferences for scheduling
- Matching algorithm for this person
Gender Preference for Family Members
Setting Gender Preference
Choose preferred provider gender:
- No Preference - Any gender provider
- Female - Prefer female providers
- Male - Prefer male providers
Why It Matters
For family members:
- Personal comfort during care
- Cultural considerations
- Age-appropriate preferences
- Previous positive experiences
Example scenarios:
- Teenager may prefer provider of same gender
- Elderly parent may have specific preference

How It Works

- Matching considers preference when assigning provider
- Preference applies to this person only
- Other family members unaffected
Language Preference for Family Members
Setting Language Preference
Choose preferred communication language:
- English (default)
- Spanish
- Other languages (as available)

- Elderly parent speaks primarily Spanish

- Matching prioritizes providers who speak the language
- Provider can communicate directly with family member
- Improves care quality
Favorite Providers for Family Members
What Are Favorite Providers?
Favorite providers are:
- Providers the family member has seen before
- Providers you want to see again for this person
- Saved for easy selection during scheduling
Marking Providers as Favorite
After a visit:
- Go to My Appointments
- Find completed visit for family member
- View provider details
- Tap Mark as Favorite (if available)
During scheduling:
- In Provider Preferences section
- See list of providers this family member has seen
- Select from "Favorite Providers" list
- Preference saved for that visit
Benefits of Favorite Providers
For family members:
- Continuity of care
- Provider familiar with health history
- Established relationship
- Comfortable care experience
For you:
- Less need to explain history each visit
- Consistent care quality
- Easier scheduling
How Preferences Appear in Service Requests
What ROC Sees
When you schedule with preferences:
- ROC receives service request
- Sees family member's preferences clearly
- Gender preference noted
- Language preference noted
- Favorite provider request (if selected)
ROC uses preferences to:
- Match best available provider
- Ensure comfortable care experience
- Consider all preference factors
- Contact you if preferences can't be met
Different Preferences Per Family Member
Individual Preferences
Each family member can have:
- Different gender preference
- Different language preference
- Different favorite providers
- Unique preference settings
Example:
- Parent: Prefers female providers, English
- Teenager: Prefers same-gender provider, English
- Elderly parent: No gender preference, Spanish
Managing Multiple Preferences
In My Family:
- Each person has separate preferences
- Edit preferences individually
- No conflicts between family members
- All preferences saved separately
Updating Family Member Preferences
Changing Preferences
In Family Member Profile:
- Go to My Family
- Tap the family member
- Tap Preferences
- Change any preference
- Tap Save
During Scheduling:
- In Step 3, find Provider Preferences
- Change preferences for this visit
- Continue with scheduling
- New preferences apply to this visit only
Preference Sync
Automatic sync:
- Changes in profile update scheduling defaults
- Changes during scheduling update profile
- Preferences sync automatically
- No manual sync needed
Removing Family Member Preferences
Clearing Preferences
To remove preferences:
- Go to My Family
- Select family member
- Tap Preferences
- Select "No Preference" for gender
- Select default language
- Clear favorite provider
- Tap Save
Preferences are optional:
- Don't have to set preferences
- Can skip during scheduling
- Can remove anytime
- No preference means any provider
Preferences for Different Visit Types
Visit-Specific Preferences
You can set different preferences for:
- Routine visits for family member
- Urgent visits for family member
- Wellness visits for family member
- Telehealth visits for family member
How it works:
- Preferences set during scheduling apply to that visit
- Can be different for each visit type
- Profile preferences are defaults
- Override during scheduling if needed
Privacy and Family Preferences
How Preferences Are Used
Family member preferences:
- Shared with ROC for matching
- Used to improve care experience
- Stored securely per family member
- Can be updated or removed anytime
Privacy:
- Preferences are private
- Only used for provider matching
- Not shared with providers directly
- Protected per HIPAA guidelines
- Each family member's preferences separate
Troubleshooting
Preferences Not Saving for Family Member
Problem: Changes not saving
Solutions:
- Make sure to tap Save after changes
- Check you're editing correct family member
- Verify internet connection
- Close and reopen app
- Try updating in profile instead
Favorite Provider Not Showing
Problem: Previous provider not in family member's favorites
Possible reasons:
- Provider no longer active
- Visit was too long ago
- Provider not available in area
- System hasn't updated yet
What to do:
- Contact support to request specific provider

- ROC can note preference manually
Preferences Not Being Used
Problem: Assigned provider doesn't match family member's preferences
Possible reasons:
- No matching provider available
- Emergency or urgent situation
- Geographic limitations
- Service type requirements
What to do:
- Check if provider availability is limited
- Contact ROC to discuss options
- Can reschedule if needed
- Preferences saved for future visits
