Pharmacy Network and Insurance

In-Network Pharmacies

For best coverage:

  • Lower copays
  • Better coverage
  • Easier claims processing

Check with insurance:

  • Call insurance customer service
  • Review insurance website
  • Check pharmacy network list
  • Some chains in-network, others not

Out-of-Network Pharmacies

If you select out-of-network:

  • Higher copays may apply
  • Limited coverage
  • May need to pay upfront
  • Submit claims yourself

Still works:

  • Prescription still sent
  • Can fill prescription
  • Just costs more

Mail-Order Pharmacies

Cannot select mail-order in app:

  • RoadL supports retail pharmacies only
  • E-prescribing designed for local pickup
  • Provider can manually send to mail-order

If you prefer mail-order:

  1. Select retail pharmacy in app
  2. Ask provider during visit
  3. They can send to mail-order instead
  4. Or transfer from retail to mail-order

How E-Prescribing Works

Prescription Process

During your visit:

  1. Provider determines medication needed
  2. Writes prescription electronically
  3. Selects your preferred pharmacy from your profile
  4. Sends prescription instantly
  5. Pharmacy receives immediately

You're notified:

  • Text from pharmacy (if enrolled)
  • Pharmacy may call
  • Or check with pharmacy directly
  • Usually ready within 1-2 hours

Pickup:

  • Go to pharmacy
  • Show ID
  • Provide insurance if needed
  • Pay copay
  • Receive medication

Controlled Substances

Some medications require paper prescription:

  • Controlled substances (varies by state)
  • Certain pain medications
  • Some psychiatric medications

Process:

  • Provider notes this during visit
  • Paper prescription printed
  • You take to pharmacy
  • Fill as normal

Your pharmacy still used:

  • Provider provides paper prescription for your preferred pharmacy
  • Or you can take to any pharmacy

No Pharmacy Selected

Proceeding Without Pharmacy

Can schedule some visits without:

  • Annual wellness visits
  • Preventive screenings
  • Visits not involving prescriptions

Cannot schedule:

  • Urgent care (prescriptions likely)
  • Medication management visits
  • Follow-up for condition requiring meds

If Provider Needs to Prescribe

During visit without pharmacy:

  1. Provider asks for pharmacy
  2. You provide pharmacy name and location
  3. Provider calls/faxes prescription
  4. Less convenient but works

Better to have selected:

  • Saves time during visit
  • Electronic is faster and more accurate
  • No delays in medication
