Add and Manage Insurance Information
RoadL accepts most major insurance plans. Adding your insurance information ensures smooth billing and helps you understand your coverage before each visit.
Supported Insurance Types
We work with many insurance providers including:
- Medicare
- Medicaid
- Commercial insurance plans (Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, BCBS, etc.)
- Managed Care Organizations (MCOs)
- Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs)
- Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs)
Add Your Insurance
Step 1: Navigate to Insurance Settings
- Open the RoadL Patient App
- Tap My Profile from the side menu
- Select Insurance & Payment
- Tap Add Insurance
Step 2: Search for Your Insurance Plan
- Use the searchable dropdown
- Type your insurance company name (e.g., "Aetna", "Medicare")
- Select your specific plan from the list
Note: We only show in-network insurance plans. If you don't see your plan, it may not be in our network yet.
Step 3: Upload Insurance Card Photos
For accurate verification, we need photos of your insurance card:
Front of Card:
- Tap Upload Front of Card
- Choose to:
- Take a photo with your camera (recommended)
- Select from your photo library
- Make sure these are clearly visible:
- Insurance company name
- Member ID number
- Group number
- Plan name
- Use the cropping tool to frame the card
- Tap Save
Back of Card:
- Tap Upload Back of Card
- Follow the same process as the front
- Ensure all text and numbers are readable
- Tap Save
Tips for Clear Photos:
- Use good lighting
- Lay the card on a flat, contrasting surface
- Avoid glare or shadows
- Make sure all text is in focus
- The card should fill most of the frame
Step 4: Enter Insurance Details
Fill in the required information:
- Member ID - Found on front of card
- Group Number - Found on front of card (if applicable)
- Subscriber Name - The policyholder's name
- Subscriber Date of Birth - Policyholder's DOB
- Relationship to Subscriber:
- Self (if you're the policyholder)
- Spouse
- Child
- Other dependent
Step 5: Verify and Save
- Review all information for accuracy
- Tap Verify Coverage (optional, but recommended)
- Tap Save Insurance Information
Coverage Verification
Real-Time Verification
When you schedule a visit, we automatically verify:
- ✅ Active coverage status
- ✅ Benefits for the specific service type
- ✅ Your copay amount (if applicable)
- ✅ Deductible status
- ✅ Authorization requirements
What You'll See
After verification, you'll receive:
- Coverage Confirmation - Service is covered
- Copay Amount - What you owe at time of service
- Out-of-Pocket Estimate - Expected costs not covered by insurance
Managing Multiple Insurance Plans
Add Secondary Insurance
If you have more than one insurance plan:
- Go to Insurance & Payment
- Tap Add Another Insurance Plan
- Follow the same steps as above
- Designate which is Primary and which is Secondary
Note: We'll bill your primary insurance first, then secondary for any remaining balance.
Edit Insurance Information
To update existing insurance:
- Go to Insurance & Payment
- Tap the insurance plan you want to edit
- Make your changes
- Tap Update
Remove Insurance
To remove an insurance plan:
- Go to Insurance & Payment
- Tap the insurance plan
- Scroll to the bottom
- Tap Remove Insurance Plan
- Confirm removal
Warning: Removing insurance may result in self-pay charges for future visits.
Understanding Your Coverage
Covered Services
Most insurance plans cover:
- Annual Wellness Visits
- Routine medical care
- Urgent care visits
- Chronic care management
- Transitional care (post-hospital)
- Preventive care services
Services That May Require Authorization
Some services need pre-authorization:
- Specialized treatments
- Certain behavioral health services
- Some chronic care programs
We'll notify you if authorization is needed and help coordinate it.
Copays and Cost-Sharing
Copays:
- Fixed amount you pay per visit
- Usually $0-$50 depending on your plan
- Due at time of service
Deductibles:
- Amount you pay before insurance covers services
- We'll let you know if you haven't met your deductible
Balance Billing:
- If insurance doesn't cover full cost, you may receive a bill
- We'll always notify you of potential out-of-pocket costs before your visit
Payment for Insurance Visits
How Billing Works
- Visit Completed - Provider finishes your care
- Claim Submitted - We file claim with your insurance (within 24 hours)
- Insurance Processes - Your insurance reviews and pays
- You're Billed - You receive bill for copay/deductible (if applicable)

- Credit card (on file)
- Debit card
- HSA/FSA cards accepted
What If I Don't Have Insurance?
No insurance? No problem! We offer:
- Self-Pay Options - Transparent pricing for all services
- Payment Plans - Available for qualifying patients
- Sliding Scale - Income-based pricing may be available

Troubleshooting
"Your Insurance Plan Not Found"
- Double-check the plan name on your card
- Try searching by insurance company name only
- Contact support - we may need to add your plan to our system
"Coverage Could Not Be Verified"
- Verify your member ID is entered correctly
- Check that your coverage is active with your insurance
- Contact your insurance company directly
- Call our support team for assistance
"Service Not Covered by Your Plan"
- Some services may not be covered by all plans
- We'll always notify you before scheduling
- You can choose to pay out-of-pocket if desired
